All characters, places, and events in Virtual Reality are fictional. Any similarities with real life people, places, and events is purely coincidental.
Dan was lying back up on a bed in a bedroom. The bedroom was fairly small. There was a desk with a gaming computer, a mahogany wood dresser, a hanging bookshelf above the computer, a large metal bed with puffy pillows and a red blanket on top. Morning sunlight was beaming through a window with opened silk curtains. Know Your Enemy by Rage Against the Machine was playing through a phone that Dan was holding.
Dan had the Guilded group chat he made yesterday focused on his phone.
‘Anyone awake yet?’ Dan sent into the group chat.
Corey started typing and after ten seconds he sent ‘Your up early too eh?‘.
‘I couldn’t sleep, I have plans on what to do next in our virtual reality world, and it’s gonna be huge haha!’ Dan replied.
Nia started typing and sent ‘bruh its 5 in da morn guys’.
‘We know. It’s never to early to plan though. I wasn’t tired anyways haha. Might’ve been the seven beers I had after dinner.’ Dan replied.
‘How da hell do u type after drinking that much’ Nia sent.
‘Moderation, Nia.’ Dan replied.
‘7 beers aint moderation’ Nia replied at Dan.
‘Beers aren’t that alcoholic. I could probably intake seven Bud Lights without getting drunk. Now if it were vodka instead of beer, yeah that wouldn’t be moderation. Most people can’t intake two shots of vodka without getting drunk.’ Corey sent.
Dan started typing.
‘Hey guys, so we’re up. How about we get a head start on what we have planned for today in our virtual reality world?’
‘Why not.’ Corey replied ‘BRB, getting my suit on.’
Dan stuck his phone in his jacket pocket. He then got off the bed and pulled out his VR suit and his VR headset from beneath. He slipped inside of the VR suit, sat on the bed, and put his VR headset on.
* * * * *
Dan was back in the purple grid world of the virtual reality and he was now a gray fox again.
“Let’s make this look more realistic.” he said.
He pulled out his phone from his avatar’s ripped black pants, turned it on, and opened admin tools.
The admin tools had multiple options. They were environment editor, character creator, no limit build mode, and misc tools.
He selected environment editor which brought up lots of boxes of different options. There were options to change the ground, and terrain features, change the sky, and even settings for weather!
He selected ground settings which gave lots of assets to change how the ground looks. He selected a bright green grass. He was given the option to set a small area or the whole world. He selected the whole world, and the ground that looked like an endless void was now a lush green ground. He pressed back and then opened the sky settings which was done just like the ground settings. He scrolled to where there was an option to upload a custom image. He uploaded a picture of his human form staring menacingly at the viewer. He pressed back opened weather options, enabled weather cycle, and set the weather to clear even though it already was clear. He also enabled the day and night cycle as well.
Corey’s and Nia’s avatars magically appeared in front of Dan as if they came out of thin air.
“I should make effects for when players log into the world.” Dan said to himself.
Nia looked up to the sky and barked “Jeez! Remind me to never look up into the sky in a virtual reality video game.”
“Haha, that’s just a placeholder.” Dan replied ecstatically.
“Does your placeholder have to look like their watching my every movement?” Nia barked.
Corey looked up, snickered, and said “Good selfie Dan.”
Dan opened the sky settings again and set the sky to be dynamic where it changes color depending on the time of day and the weather the virtual world was in. The sky also had animated clouds.
Nia put her left hand in her pocket and then looked down and said “What is this?”
She pulled out what looked like a small pistol.
“We have guns here?” Nia barked.
“Yeah, they might come in handy when the world gets more advanced, or if we want to recreate Call of Duty gun games in virtual reality.” Dan replied.
“Do these work?” Nia queried.
“Try it.” Dan replied.
Nia held the gun out and pressed the trigger. There was a loud gunfire, a spurt of blood from Dan’s crotch, and a loud “ACKKK!”.
“Did you seriously have to shoot me in the balls?” Dan barked in a fast voice.
“Sorry. Just wanted to see how guns worked here.” Nia replied.
“It’s alright. At least the VR suit works.” Dan said.
Corey pulled out his phone and then said, “It’d be useful if there was a browser on here.”
“There’s a browser, scroll to the second page. App store and Google should both be on that page.” Dan replied.
“Ah, there it is. I’m going to pull some assets to place down. Let’s put down one of those standard houses to start off with.” Corey said.
“Wouldn’t it be make more sense to place a road first?” Nia queried.
Corey tapped on his phone and a long concrete road appeared beneath everyone. He then tapped his phone again and placed two matching houses side by side to the right side of the road.
The houses had green paint for the outer walls, two stories, a white brick tiled roof, clean glass windows with white curtains hiding what’s inside the buildings, a large white garage door, and a mahogany wood door on front.
“The interiors are empty so we can furnish it how we want it to. There are three floors, each floor is arranged with five rooms making an upside down U shape. Two rooms on the sides and one straight ahead of the front door.” Corey said, “It would also be pretty neato if we could have NPCs that could make their own homes and decorate to how they like it.”
“I actually do have advanced NPCs on my to-do list. I was looking to make this sort of like a life sim but with our own twist and with basically whatever we want to add.” Dan replied.
“Like magic?” Nia queried.
“Yeah! Magic would be cool! I’m going to eventually add in magic.” Dan replied ecstatically.
“Hey.” Said a female voice behind Nia.
Nia turned, screamed, and punched Haddie’s avatar in the face knocking her down.
“Oof!” Haddie barked.
“Sorry about that Haddie.” Nia mumbled.
Haddie got up and said, “It’s alright.”
“OK, before we get into creating NPCs, we need to get ideas on what we want to do for a country. What kind of management should it be. A monarchy, democracy, etc. And then we need to set up guidelines.” Dan said.
“Who gives a crap about that stuff?” Nia replied.
“I mean it would make sure that this doesn’t become Grand Theft Auto but more chaotic. Without guidelines people would be able to do whatever the hell they wanted with basically no consequences. Do you want someone driving a tank in your backyard shooting up anything and everything? Do you want someone to spike your tab with Drano? Do you want someone to hang you upside down to a ceiling fan and tickle you with a feather?” Dan barked.
“I hate being tickled with feathers.” Nia barked.
Dan pulled out a feather from his pants and said, “Well if you don’t want guidelines, then I guess I can tickle you with this feather.”
Nia screamed again.
“Alright, alright. You can do guidelines. Do something like the US where there are presidents but there’s no limit to how long you can have the role.” Nia barked.
“Now we’re getting somewhere.” Dan replied while he put the feather back in his pants.
“Got any ideas for names?” Corey said.
“Actually I do! Canada! I even made an anthem for it…. Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux, Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux! Car ton bras sait porter l'épée, Il sait porter la croix! Ton histoire est une épopée Des plus brillants exploits. Et ta valeur, de foi trempée, Protégera nos foyers et nos droits Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.” Dan replied ecstatically.
“What the hell did you just say…” Corey barked.
“Oh. You don’t understand French. We’ll worry about that later.” Dan replied.
“Doesn’t Canada already exist?” Haddie queried.
“Not in this virtual world it doesn’t.” Corey said.
“We’re doing Canada!” Dan shouted, “Now how do we want the whole world to be created for backstory?”
“I got an idea!” Nia and Haddie said at the same time.
They then stared at each other for about a minute.
“You can both share your ideas. In fact the more ideas the more creative things get, and the more diverse NPCs in the virtual reality can get!” Dan said, “Haddie, you go first.”
“OK, so we are all just in a big dream sequence. A blue anthromorphic fox created the whole world through a magical dream sequence. Her dreams became a reality and she’s watching over us. She’s like the guardian of all of the universe.” Haddie said.
“Ooo! I really like that one. Nia your turn.” Dan said ecstatically.
“Since you have a bias for foxes…” Nia started.
“I don’t have a bias for foxes. I like foxes though. They are cute and fuzzy.” Dan interrupted.
“Yeah like I said, since you have a bias for foxes. Take Haddie’s fox but put them in a two-piece bikini. The skimpier the better…”
Corey started snickering.
“Nia please don’t use my idea and turn it into Showgirls 4: Furry Takeover.” Haddie barked.
“Guys shut the hell up and let me finish what I’m saying! Then she eats a heavily loaded taco with the hottest hot sauce on the face of the planet…” Nia continued.
Digby and Sherry’s avatars suddenly appeared right in front of Nia causing her to jump.
“Damn it! You two jumped me!” Nia barked.
“Sorry about that Nia.” Sherry replied.
“OK, I’m going to try to finish this before I get—” Nia barked.
Suddenly Timeless by witchgang started playing from Nia’s phone.
“I would go rip shit mad but I like this song.” Nia barked.
“Witchgang’s music is awesome.” Dan replied.
“Yeah. Now I’m going to speak very fast before another interruption and finish what I’m saying. Haddie’s fox ate spicy tacos and they let out fiery taco gas which created everything.” Nia said very speedily.
Corey laughed and said, “One version we are made of dreams second version someone has farts powerful enough to create everything in the universe.”
“Hell yeah man.” Nia barked.
“Alright since we got origins down as well as I got guidelines in my mind, I think its time to get the NPCs.” Dan said.
“How would NPCs work?” Nia queried.
“I’m using an AI that can think and remember and adapt. The AI can also multiply in certain scenarios. Now for new NPCs I’m going to feed the AI a lil’ backstory for the NPC to know. It’s actually pretty simple to use. It’s in the admin panel.” Dan replied.
“OK, two questions. Does the AI have free will and how does the AI ‘multiply’?” Nia queried.
“For the first question yes. For the second question there are plenty of ways. A sodomy is one way.” Dan replied.
“What is that?” Nia barked.
“I will read ‘100 Ways to Have Sex’ another day Nia. You know what, I’ll read it right here and right now!” Dan replied.
“No!” Haddie barked.
“Alright, alright! Don’t tie your panties into a knot! I was being sarcastic, Haddie!” Dan replied.
Haddie sighed while glaring at Dan.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop.” Dan barked.
Dan started tapping on his phone again and then suddenly he started levitating a few feet up into the air.
“Wait you can fly?” Nia queried.
“Of course I can! It is easier to build with flying enabled.” Dan replied.
“Is it possible to take fall damage?” Nia queried.
Dan flew above the nearest house and disabled his flying resulting him to land on the roof and slide of the building smacking his head face first in the concrete ground.
“Oh god I killed Danny!” Nia squeaked.
Dan raised his head off the ground and barked, “No you didn’t.”
A satellite on the roof of the house Dan landed on suddenly slid off the roof and smashing Dan’s head, creating a large pool of blood where he was laying.
“Oh god now I killed Danny!” Nia squeaked.
Dan’s body that was on the ground magically disappeared leaving only the pool of blood and the satellite in that spot.
“Where’d he go?” Nia queried.
Nia felt someone breathing down her neck, she spun around and swung her fist into Dan’s face resulting in Dan losing two fangs and a small spurt of blood to spray.
“AGGHHH!” Dan yelled while falling to the ground.
“Son of a—” Nia barked.
“AGGHHH!” Dan yelled even louder when he got back up.
“This is why you don’t sneak up behind me. Nearly smacked the taste buds out of you.” Nia barked.
“I’m going to spawn the NPCs I have created before this becomes your average episode of South Park.” Dan grumbled.
“I think it already became an episode of South Park…” Nia said.
“No it didn’t!” Dan barked.
“But…”
“NO IT DIDN’T!” Dan yelled.
“Alright but…”
Dan glared menacingly at Nia.
“Jesus! Chill out there Terminator! That’s more menacing than Digby’s glare when I complimented Sherry’s ass!” Nia squeaked.
Now Digby glared at Nia.
Nia pulled out the gun she had earlier, raised it above her head, started violently waving the gun around and screamed.
“Chill the hell out before you blow someone’s head off!” Digby barked.
Nia stopped waving and screaming and put the gun back into her pants.
“Sorry.” Nia said quietly.
“Now I’m going to start rambling and tell you all these two NPCs back stories. Single mother and adopted daughter. The daughter is male to female trans while mum is a lesbian. Mum is a big brown anthromorphic hare and the daughter is a small white dog. Both of them like art. Daughter is a rock and metalhead. She likes artists like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, and Machine Gun Kelly. Mum likes older music so like Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Meatloaf, you get my point…”
“Two questions Danny. First do the like Leo metal covers? Lesbian you say? Are you specifically making a lesbian NPC for me to like date or something?” Nia queried.
“That is three questions. First one, yes. Second also yes. Third one yes if you want to, no if you don’t. I ain’t holding it against you though. I mean people did invent AI for that purpose.” Dan replied.
“What are the NPCs names?” Nia queried.
“Mum’s name is Sarah, daughter’s name is Tess. I’m going to be right back. When I come back, close the door to the house, and then knock on the same door I want you guys be part of our local Welcome Wagon.” Dan responded.
He tiptoed into the first house Corey had placed down, leaving the door open.
“Welcome Wagon, oh god.” Nia said.
“It can’t be that bad Nia.” Haddie barked.
“I’m socially awkward around people I don’t know. Doesn’t matter if they are real or an AI.” Nia replied.
“You’ll do fine Nia. Trust me.” Haddie said.
“I dunno.” Nia replied.
Dan came out of the house and closed the door.
“Ya’ll ready for the Welcome Wagon?” Dan queried.
“Nia might need some convincing.” Haddie said.
“No I don’t!” Nia barked.
“You literally just said…” Haddie started.
“No.” Nia barked.
“Alrighty! I’m going to knock on the door!” Dan said ecstatically.
Nia gave a nervous grin while Dan knocked the door three times and punched the door’s window.
“Aghhh!” Dan yelled while blood was spewing from the hand he punched the now broken window with.
“That is why one should never punch any objects made of glass. I don’t know why you decided to do that but I’m not questioning how your thought process works.” Haddie barked.
Then the door opened and there stood the dog and the hare. They looked just like how Dan described them. They both had large ears. Tess’s flopped on the side of her head and Sarah’s pointed up in the air. Tess wore blue jorts and a black Metallica t-shirt while Sarah wore black square glasses, a white shirt, an unzipped brown leather jacket, and dark blue jeans.
“Hello!” Sarah said.
“Hey! I noticed that you two moved in and I wanted to welcome you to my small town! I’m Daniel Wyn Sherly but you can call me Dan for short! I’m the mayoress of the town! I hope you enjoy it here! We’re trying to make this town is where anyone is welcomed without being judged for who they are!”
“Thanks! I like this town already. The mayoress looks like they actually care!” Sarah said ecstatically.
“Yeah! I know what it is like to get hated on for what I am. I chose to get away from the haters and started creating a safe haven for people to be who they are without the hate. Here we are now! Thank you for joining us in the early stage of our community!” Dan said.
“No problem!” Sarah replied, “Thank you for running a community that accepts my and my daughter’s kind!”
“No problem to you too!” Dan replied.
Tess looked at Dan’s shirt and exclaimed “Fellow Nine Inch Nails enjoyer!”
“Yeah! Rock and metal are my two favorite music genres!” Dan replied happily.
“What other bands do you like?” Tess queried.
“I also like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Machine Gun Kelly, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, damn there’s a lot more!” Dan replied.
“Lots of epic bands you listed!” Tess said with a smile.
“Oh! Two more things I should introduce my friends to you two! Digby is the muscley yellow dog, Sherry is the other yellow dog, Corey’s the cat, Haddie is the bear, and Nia is the alligator/crocodile creature. I have no idea which one she is. And…” Dan said.
He pulled out two phones from his pants and handed one each to Sarah and Tess.
“Those phones will come in handy! You can use those to contact us as well as a bunch of other things when our community advances more! We also live next door so if you ever want to hangout or need anything we’re close by!” Dan said.
“Thanks!” Sarah replied.
“No problem!” Dan replied back, “Again welcome! We’re going to be heading out for today. Going to plan on what to work on next for our town!”
“Have a good one!” Sarah and Tess said at the same time before closing the door.
